"Recognize"

Numbers 6: 24-26

For many of us our days are filled with an endless list of "to do's"; for work and family, the house and yard, from daily required maintenance, to that list of jobs we endlessly postpone. We have so many things to get done, and we're stretched and stressed to get through the list efficiently. Our "life" can feel like an endless list of tasks.

A fact of our modern world for most of us-we have too much going on; too many demands, and life is out of balance.

"Life's a gas; it expands to fill all available space."

The pace of life can be exhausting, and it's difficult (if not impossible) to stay in equilibrium. And all the "labour-saving" devices only clear enough space for something further down the list to crowd its way into the briefly empty gap. Even our "leisure time" can feel stuffed. We are preoccupied with tasks to be done, or distractions to fill the emptiness.

Do you think this affects the way we see our selves? The way we respond to our family and neighbours? The broader world? Does it shape our posture toward God?

What can help to provide some balance to this?

For this Sunday... read and meditate on Numbers 6:24-26

Going deeper... take time each day to sit quietly for a few minutes; breathe slowly and deeply.  Ask God to open your heart, mind and body, to see clearly what is before you, and receive the present moment as a gift.
