Our Beliefs and Values
Our church name is Immanuel which means “God with us”. Our name is one of our foundational beliefs – that God is with us in everything that happens. Immanuel is one of the names of Jesus, God’s own Son, who came into this world to meet humanity where we are at, to absorb our mistakes and brokenness, and to lead us into a better tomorrow.
As Immanuel, a people trusting that God is with us, we seek to live in community. We live in community with each other as we worship on Sunday mornings. We live in community as we run programs and events for all ages. We live in community with our neighbours in Brampton and Caledon as we find ways to serve.
Our goal in its shortest form is “transforming lives”. We want to help people experience God in a way that transforms the way they live. Whether in worship, prayer gatherings, or ministry to youth or children, we seek to find ways to help people to connect deeply with how God is at work in their lives.
Immanuel is a unique community. We have much in common with other churches, of course, but God has led us to some unique opportunities. We believe in following God’s lead and so these partnerships shape our identity.
We have a Spanish ministry called La Roca. Though Hispanics are not the most known people group in Brampton, but we were led by God to embrace La Roca
We have a partnership with the Meeting House for youth ministry. Beth Chisholm, who we consider our youth pastor, is officially employed by the Meeting House.
We are developing a partnership with Haiti. Our Ministry Director Lesley Toussaint lived there on mission for 5 years, was married there, and through her and other connections we have developed a desire to be an ongoing partner with the Jacmel community of Haiti.
We have a commitment to the Brampton Neighbourhood of McHardy/FairOaks. Every week a group gathers there to do Bible Study and to pray. Home Depot generously gives us a grant each year which we use to help residents get paint to renew and refresh their homes. We also support an annual bike clinic, a Christmas Store, and work with a parent group on many community events.
